11 people were left injured in a collision between a taxi and a truck this evening. The collision occurred at the intersection at Main Reef Road and Granville Avenue in Roodepoort, Gauteng.
Allegedly the truck’s brakes failed which caused it to collide head on with the taxi.
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found that the driver of the taxi had sustained critical injuries including an amputated arm. The man was treated and rushed to hospital for further assessment. Over and above the taxi driver, 10 other people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. ER24 treated and transported two patients to Helen Joseph Hospital for further treatment.
The remaining patients were treated and transported by other medical services on scene.
Traffic in the area is heavily affected and ER24 would like to urge the public to make us of alternative routes where possible. The cause of this incident is still unknown, local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
