A Bloemfontein man who faked his own kidnapping and hijacking has been arrested after police found him with his mistress in Richard’s Bay.
The 29-year-old DStv installer’s wife on Wednesday reported her husband kidnapped at a police station, reported Volksblad.
The woman, who has a 2-month-old baby, was said to be distraught and in a terrible state of worry about her missing husband.
She said her husband had told her over the phone that he had been hijacked by armed men and that she shouldn’t call the police.
She apparently heard him being assaulted during the phone call and received several threatening SMSes telling her not to contact the police.
She was also informed that a reward of R400 000 was demanded for her husband’s life.
The man’s employer said the wife had been “badly shocked” and had cried a lot as she feared the armed men would kill him.
Bloemfontein police confirmed that the man and his ex-girlfriend were arrested at the bank in Richard’s Bay.
