The Grassy Park Community Policing Forum in Cape Town has warned the M5 highway opposite Parkwood has become a hijacking hotspot.
On Tuesday evening a woman and her son were travelling towards Muizenberg when their vehicle was stoned.
She managed to escape unharmed but the CPF said others have been targeted in a similar manner and then hijacked.
CPF spokesperson Phillip Bam said motorists must remain alert.
“There is an open field between the M5 and Parkwood Estate. People who run away run through there and they congregate on the parking area close to the cemetery. So people do get robbed there. It is a hot spot,” he said.
He added that people often hide in the bushes near the traffic lights.
“We learnt the other day from police reports that there were a number of hijackings in the area. We would like to caution people, especially those travelling on the M5 that there is an embankment and it is very difficult to see if people are hiding,” he said.
