Today, 18 March 2014, at approximately 15:00, SAPS Westville Crime Prevention members were conducting patrols in the Westville Central area, when they spotted a blue VW Polo Classic with four male occupants. The SAPS members drew closer to observe the vehicle and noticed all the occupants were trying not to look at them, acted suspicious. The members decided to stop and search the vehicle. Upon conducting a search they found a large quantity of items related to motor vehicle theft and theft out of motor vehicle.
Among those implements were a monkey wrench, four cell phones, digital camera, seven sets of car keys and other car breaking implements. It is suspected that the car keys are used to override (remote jammers) victims’ vehicle alarms when parked. Electronic equipment will be examined by experts to establish what they contain and what purpose they are used for. The four suspects between the ages of 20 and 30 were arrested and detained at Westville SAPS. They will appear in court soon facing charges of possession of car breaking implements.
