Question:

Hi Could you please help me with a query that was bought to my attention. If a tanker is on the road – what is the case with a fire Extinguisher – It does not contain flammable liquid or any dangerous goods but contains water or milk at the time?

Is it required by law that there has to be a Fire Extinguishers on the truck?

Answer:

There is no requirement for a fire extinguisher if you do not carry dangerous goods. Reg 260 only requires it for passenger vehicles.

    Hi there

I received a fine for not having a fire extinguisher on my truck. I’m not transporting any dangerous goods nor do I transport people. I transport food as in eggs. Do I need to have a fire extinguisher on my vehicle?

  3. Hi Alta,
Thank you for a great site and also all your input I see with caravans! I have a fleet of trucks from 3ton to horses. I am trying to find out what size extinguishers I need for the size truck and so far not even the COF places can tell me. My guys were stopped by the traffic officals and told that their fire extinguisher is too small but could not give him the right size? He was only warned but I also see you state it does not need a extinguisher if they do not carry hazardous goods?
Your urgent response would really be appreciated.

    kind regards

I think every vehicle should have extinguishes , it is not necessary always to have fire in your car. Sometimes near parked car can catch fire put you under risk to catch your car fire . You can help other cars too to put off-the-fire.
