Last night at approximately 22:00 Durban K9 Unit members were doing their patrols at Morningside area, Durban when they saw a suspicious-looking Grey Toyota Yaris vehicle in the area. The members tried to stop it but it sped off. A chase ensued and the suspected vehicle crash into a taxi. Six passengers from the taxi were injured and the suspect was also injured and arrested. He was taken to hospital under police guard and will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court facing theft of motor vehicle charges once he is discharged from hospital. The suspicious Grey vehicle was circulated and it came as a stolen motor vehicle at Berea area. The arrested suspect will be linked to 12 other theft of motor vehicles that were taken in Berea and Umbilo area.
On 7 January 2014 at 18:30 the victim parked his Grey Toyota Yaris at Morningside area. The vehicle was properly locked and all windows were closed. On the same day at about 21:30 the victim returned back to where he parked his vehicle and noticed that it was stolen. A case of theft of motor vehicle was opened at Berea police station for investigation.
