A criminal conviction for drunk driving will follow you and haunt you!

Question:

I am working as a driver at one of the companies in Durban. My problem is I’ve been rejected for my PDP renewal due to my case of drinking and driving, I was told to reapply in three years time. I’d like to know where I can appeal this decision because I’m about to lose my job because I can’t operate a truck without PDP.

I’m the breadwinner at home with eight dependants.

It’s already going to be hard for me to find another job because of a criminal record I have against my name. PLEASE HELP

Answer:

Good day

The time period within which you are not allowed to obtain a PRDP is actually 5 years in terms of regulation 117.

You may appeal the decision to the MEC of the province, but previous cases of drunken driving were generally not successful.

Contact the KZN Dept of transport in Pietermaritzburg for the information on the appeals procedure.
