Blitzbokke teammates on grass become rivals on the track!

by jonckie@arrivealive.co.za

The Blitzbokke have given die-hard South African rugby fans much to celebrate in the super competitive world of Sevens Rugby. With 27 tournament wins on the IRB Sevens Series since inception in 1999, they have gone on to win the Series twice and are the current champions. The Blitzbokke have also won gold at the Commonwealth Games and World games as well as a Bronze Medal in the sports inaugural Olympic Games in Brazil in 2016. They have played sensational rugby in the 2016 / 2017 season and now two of the star players from the all-conquering Blitzbok team go head to head on Speed Stars.

Born in Ravensmead in the Western Cape, 24 year old Justin Geduld made is Springbok Sevens debut in New Zealand in 2013. Having represented Western Province at both under 18 and under 19, the fleet footed Geduld has been a standout for the Blitzbokke and that’s got nothing to do with his trademark dreadlocks!

Kwagga Smith’s Blitzbokke debut in 2013 is one he won’t forget, with the team winning their home tournament in Port Elizabeth. Born in Mpumalanga, Smith has represented the Puma’s and the Golden Lions in junior rugby, before representing South Africa at the 2013 IRB Junior World Championships. Hard, fast and tenacious on attack and defense, Kwagga has become a fan favourite whether playing for the Lions or the Blitzbokke.

Competitive, fast and with blitz reflexes, will Justin and Kwagga be able to bring those skills to the track? Catch them in action on Speed Stars on Ignition, DSTV 189 at the following times:

A STAND UP PERFORMANCE SEES JOEY RASDIEN TAKING THE WIN

The person most surprised with his performance was Joey! Having predicted a lap time that would see him at the bottom of the leaderboard, the likable comedian found himself not only beating fellow funny guy Richelieu Beaunoir, but in second position just behind current season leader Rob Forbes.

Richelieu can also be chuffed with his attempt, his lap time good for third position on our leaderboard but more importantly, ahead of Jason Goliath, so expect lots of banter in the comedic circles from Joey and Richelieu.

The leaderboard as it currently stands after three episodes:

  Rob Forbes      1:25.30
  Joey Rasdien   1:27.25
  Richelieu Beaunoir     1:29.54
  Jason Goliath   1:30.33
   Elma Smit            1:32.95
   Julia Stuart      1:34.19

And don’t forget that our two public contestants, Jason Absmeier and Louis Pires have already posted their lap times, but we will only be revealing these at the end of the season – what impact will that have on our top eight who’ll contest the final?

Congratulations to our winner of our Predict the Winner Competition: Daniel Joffe correctly predicted that Joey Rasdien would win this match up and won an Advanced Driving Course from VW Driving Academy valued at R3000.

Speed Stars 3 will be on your TV screens from the 7th October until the 8th December on Ignition, DSTV 189 as well as being available on Catch Up.

Speed Stars is brought to you by Volkswagen Driving Academy and Goodyear, and supported by Greensky Brand Architects, Zwartkops Raceway and The Fairway Hotel.
