Breakthrough made in arrest of members of motor vehicle theft syndicate

The Provincial Tracking Team has conducted an intelligence driven operation which led to a major breakthrough. A motor vehicle theft syndicate who is operating from a smallholding outside Polokwane was nabbed.

The police followed a suspected stolen car until it entered the said smallholding. Upon arrival, a number of suspected stolen motor vehicles were recovered which are as follows:

– One Toyota Yaris.
– One Nissan Sentra.
– One Mazda 3.
– One ford Courier LDV.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that all these vehicles were registered in Botswana and their chassis numbers were tampered with. The police also found a lot of registration documents from Botswana and Zimbabwe as well as Botswana license discs.

One suspect aged 20 was arrested for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles and he will appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 February 2017.

Police investigations in terms of determining the origins of these vehicles are continuing.
