The public is requested to be on the lookout for a white Ford Bantam bakkie with registration NJ 36783.
The vehicle was hijacked a short while ago while the driver was stationary on the northbound lane of the R102 at the Canelands intersection. According to the victim, one suspect opened his passenger door and got into the vehicle while his accomplice jumped into the back of the bakkie. Both suspects were armed with knives.
They instructed the victim to drive to an isolated location across the R102. While driving one of the suspects repeatedly assaulted the 53-year-old and robbed him of his wallet containing an undisclosed amount of cash. As they were about to enter a sugar cane plantation the victim suddenly stopped the bakkie, got off and ran towards the main road where he flagged down a passing motorist.
The suspects then drove off in the vehicle which was loaded with thousands of rands worth of stationary which was being delivered to a business in Tongaat prior to the hijacking. The victim was injured during the assault and was treated for his injuries by paramedics before being transported to hospital.
