Dual Citizenship, PrDP and the South African Driving Licence Card

by jonckie@arrivealive.co.za

Question:

If one has dual citizenship ( SA and USA ), can one apply for a PrDP with one’s US license or an International Driving Permit obtained in the USA?

Or, does one have to have a South African Driver’s licence?

Answer:

Proof of the possession of professional driving permit (PrDP) is not a separate document and is incorporated on the face of a South African driving licence card. This cannot be achieved with a foreign driving licence and/or an international driving permit. A US driving licence is also not valid if the person who holds it is permanently resident in South Africa.
