High Speed Chase in Kwa Mashu, KwaZulu Natal

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were involved in a high speed chase with vehicle theft suspects that started in Verulam and ended in KwaMashu – KZN yesterday (Tuesday).

Reaction Officers were called out to Palm Street in Grange – Verulam after receiving a call from a member of public reporting am attempted theft of motor vehicle. Upon arrival Officers found a Toyota Run X parked on the roadside. The quarter glass on the back door was smashed, part of the dash board was stripped and the computer box was in the process of being changed.

The owner of the vehicle explained that as he walked down his driveway to check on his vehicle he noticed a suspect seated in the driver’s seat. When the suspect realised that he had been spotted he got off the vehicle and fled in an awaiting silver VW Polo with two other occupants.

Reaction Officers conducted a search of the area however the suspects could not be located. Officers positioned themselves at exit points in the Verulam area and waited for the suspects to resurface.
Officer Amith Behari spotted the VW Polo on Oaklands Drive and followed the vehicle which sped up as it turned into Todd Street. A high speed chase ensued from Verulam, through Inanda and ended in KwaMashu .

Metro Police and SAPS Officers joined in the chase after the suspects vehicle sped past them in Inanda. As pursuing vehicles entered KwaMashu the suspects managed to evade arrest after they sped through a busy intersection nearly colliding into oncoming vehicles.

Reaction Officers, Metro Police and Officers from the South African Police conducted and extensive search of the area however the suspects could not be located.
