A Verulam resident who was kidnapped during a hijacking on North Coast Road in Durban was located in Amouti this afternoon (Friday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from the victim at approximately 20:46 requesting assistance. He informed the controller on duty that he had been hijacked of his Toyota Conquest and was forced to drive to Amouti.
Reaction Officers proceeded to the area and located the victim. He explained that as he was getting into his vehicle in Durban he was accosted by two men. One of them drew a knife and forced him into his vehicle. Due to the back doors being defective and unable to open one of the suspects remained on North Coast Road while his accomplice instructed the victim to drive him to Amouti.
When they reached his desired location the suspect robbed him of his Samsung Prime cell phone before searching the vehicle for valuables. He then fled the scene on foot with the vehicle keys. The victim walked to a nearby tuck shop where he sought assistance and contacted RUSA for assistance. The man led Reaction Officers to the vicinity of where he was forced to abandoned his vehicle. It was then recovered by Reaction Officers.
The victim was not injured.
