A 55-year-old man was hijacked of his minibus taxi and taken hostage by five men after he dropped off his last passenger in Trenance Park, Verulam last night (Friday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to a service station in the Verulam CBD at approximately 22:36 where the victim sought assistance. On arrival, he informed Reaction Officers that he was accosted by five armed suspects at his last stop.
The armed men forced him into his white Toyota Quantum with registration ND 82930 and drove off. He was blindfolded and driven around for more than an hour before being dumped in an isolated area in Verulam. The suspects then sped off in his vehicle. The victim managed to flag down a passing motorist who drove him to a service station.
The victim was not injured.
