Hijacked vehicle recovered in Umbilo

An Effingham father and his seven-year-old son, fell victim to a hijacking on Sunday night (2016/09/11) shortly after 21h00.

Three men armed with pistols, approached the vehicle as the driver was exiting the driveway of their family home, ordering the father and son into the back seat, before making off in the direction of Inanda, north of Durban.

The hijacked motor vehicle was fitted with a tracking device and monitored by BidTrack who sent out an alert to all vehicles in the north Durban area and Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team were activated to assist.

After a lengthy tracking process, the father and son were found abandoned on a dirt road in the Inanda area. The victims explained that the suspects had ordered them to exit the vehicle before making off in an unknown direction. Luckily both victims suffered no injury, however were understandably shaken up by their ordeal and the assistance of the Durban North Umhlanga Crisis Team was sought to counsel them.

A joint operation between Marshall Security, BidTrack and the South African Police Services lead to a break through with vital information received the following day, stating that the vehicle had been spotted in the suburb of Umbilo and members from all teams descended on the area.
The vehicle was found to be abandoned on Walton Place shortly after 12h00.

The suspects remain at large.

The vehicle was over to the South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.
