How do I go about getting the new number plate format for Gauteng?

At this stage the number plate does not expire, only the licence disc. It is not a requirement to change the current number to new format.

You may request the licensing department to issue you with the new format number but you will however have to purchase a new number plate with the new number on and the possible inconvenience of notifying some institutions of the change in licence number, for example finance house (if applicable), insurance, medical aid, tracking company, etc.

You have to apply for the new number format at your appropriate licensing office.
