How long is a drivers licence and a licence card valid?

by jonckie@arrivealive.co.za

Question:

I am in Vietnam and am here working. My drivers licence is to expire next year October 2013 and I am still to be here when that happens. Is it going to be possible to renew it when I am hoping to be in South Africa for about 10 days in February of 2014. Also what is the longest time before you forfeit your license?

My licence is in Ermelo Mpumalanga. and is a car and motor cycle.

Answer:

Yes, you will be able to renew your driving licence in February 2014. Your driving licence is valid indefinitely unless it is suspended or cancelled.

It is only the proof of licence (Driving licence card) that expires every 5 years. So essentially you will not forfeit your licence unless as indicated above it is suspended or cancelled.

Hopeful that the response provided answer your question.
