The first middle distance triathlon in Cape Town will be held on Sunday 10 November 2019, with Mitsubishi Motors South Africa supplying a fleet of support vehicles to help get the organisers, officials and safety officers where they need to be.
Competitors from all over the world might wish towards the end of the point to point event’s 1.9km swim, 90km bike race and 21km run that they had access to the luxury and comfort of one of the Mitsubishi Tritons supplied for the event.
“This is the first middle distance held in the Mother City, and Mitsubishi Motors South Africa is proud to be associated with this inaugural international event focussing on three key Mitsubishi traits – strength, endurance and character,” says Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.
Cape Town has been voted the best city in the world for five years running and is consistently rated one of the world’s favourite tourism and sporting destinations.
“The addition of an international triathlon will cement our reputation as SA’s sports capital,” says Cape Town Executive Mayor Dan Plato. “The race format and spectacular scenery will showcase the Mother City in a way I’m sure will make for a memorable event for local and international participants, and the economic impact will have significant benefits for our residents.”
The event kicks off with a 1.9 km swim in Big Bay, followed by a scenic 90km cycle along the coastal road back to the city, while the 21 km run in the historical District Six area will be a colourful experience. The looped format of the cycle and run is perfect for spectators to come and support their favourite athletes.
Race director Gary Marescia says the growing popularity of middle distance triathlons, coupled with the Cape Town event’s flat, fast and scenic route, positions CHALLENGECAPETOWN as a desirable race for seasoned and first-time competitors alike.
CHALLENGECAPETOWN joins the international CHALLENGEFAMILY franchise as one of their over 35 triathlon events run in more than 20 countries across the globe.
