Lightning fast reaction from the community and the SAPS Flying Squad members ensured that an alleged motor vehicle theft suspect was speedily arrested. On Christmas Eve, 24 December 2018 at about 19:00 the 39-year-old suspect allegedly stole a white Toyota Corolla from a local golf course in Kimberley. Community members allegedly spotted the incident and gave chase while contacting the police.

The suspect eventually lost control of the vehicle on the N12 and was involved in an accident. He fled into the veld but the quick and professional response from the Flying Squad members led to the swift arrest of the suspect, approximately 2km from the accident scene. The suspect is set to appear in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court soon. The investigation continues.

“The Acting Cluster Commander for the Frances Baard Cluster, Brigadier Tip Brink, lauded the community members and the Flying Squad members for their sterling collaborative efforts. This is truly partnership policing at its best.”
