Attracting thousands of bikers and festival-goers to the seaside town of Margate on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, the South Coast Bike Fest™ 2018 – from 27 to 30 April – is a calendar highlight and visitors are encouraged to pre-register or book tickets online ahead of the event to avoid on-day access delays.
Who needs to pre-register?
The short answer is – everyone attending the event. Pre-registration online secures access for both the biking and non-biking festival community.
What are the costs involved?
To welcome the biking community to this gorgeous coastal town, the South Coast Bike Fest™ has provided freeaccess to the entire event precinct for all attending bikers and pillions, provided the online pre-registration is completed at www.southcoastbikefest.co.za The bike licence number and bike driver’s licence sections must be completed to obtain access. This pre-registration also allows access to the main stage headline artist performances including Matthew Mole, the Kiffness, Goodluck, Kyle Deutsche, Springbok Nude Girls and Karen Zoid, among many others.
Once pre-registration is completed, all bikers with pillions will be required to access wristband accreditation with the pre-registered www.quicket.co.za printout tickets – with the wristband worn throughout the event for unlimited access. Bikers will also need to present the bike licence and driver’s licence at the Sasol garage in Margate in order to obtain their wristband. Just take note that each biker receives access for his or herself, and one pillion free. Free access is limited to space availability, so it’s vital that all bikers register now.
For the non-biking public looking to attend this incredible festival, pre-registration is also required via www.quicket.co.za with tickets to the event precinct available at a cost of R60 per day, subject to availability. This ticket allows the holder access to the main stage, experiential energy zone the Jack Daniels Rock Stage and two other staging areas as well as general access to the Beachfront Boulevard. For another R150, ticket holders have guaranteed access to the festival arena, including the Carling Black Label Main Beach Stage Golden Circle. All U12s enter free but must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration for all non-bikers is encouraged as access is also subject to availability.

What’s happening with event access on the day?
From 10am on 27 April to 4pm on 30 April, the entire festival precinct will be secured and only paying visitors who have completed online pre-registration can gain access. Although pre-registration can be completed on the day, space is limited so there is a chance you could miss out! Festival-goers are also encouraged to send their pre-registration links to accommodation venues before arrival so there is no access delay.

What about road closures?
There will have to be certain road closures and traffic flow adjustments, but organisers have tried to minimise the impact on residents wherever possible. This means that, from 8am on 26 April to 4pm on 1 May, Panorama Parade will be a one-way road from north to south with exit via Post Office Lane. Residents with proof of residence or proof of employment can obtain permits before the festival from the Margate Business Association – contact Corrie on 039 317 2202. Holidaymakers can obtain vehicle permits from the letting agent via the collection key box at Sasol garage, Marine Drive, however, pedestrian permits will need to be purchased.
What do the new by-laws mean for festival-goers?
The South Coast Bike Fest™ is presented by Ugu South Coast Tourism with endorsement and support from Ugu District and Ray Nkonyeni Municipalities. The municipality recently implemented the Nuisance and Behaviour in Public Places Bylaw 2017 which came into effect on 1 January 2018. These laws, which prohibit unsocial behaviour such as public indecency and loitering, will ensure a pleasant festival experience for all visitors.
Justin Mackrory, CEO Ugu South Coast Tourism, explained: “The introduction of new and stringent bylaws by the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality allow for the fining of transgressors up to R25 000. This is a positive step to ensure that public conduct meets acceptable standards and to ensure that users of public space and the event venue savour the festivity and vibe.
“As far as South Coast Bike Fest 2018 is concerned, we see this as a means of ensuring that besides the event’s own comprehensive security plan, bikers and the general public can be satisfied that every effort will be made to maximise comfort of attendance while enjoying the great entertainment and biker offering throughout the fest.”
