A 28-year-old man was apprehended and a Ford Ranger bakkie that was reported stolen from Burbreeze in Tongaat was recovered in Hambanathi a short while ago (Sunday).

At approximately 00:55 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were alerted to the theft of the bakkie which was fitted with a tracking device from Tracker. The vehicle was initially emitting signals from a garage on Gopalall Hurbans Road before it moved to Hambanathi.

As Reaction Officers proceeded to the area a distress call was received from the director of a private security company requesting assistance after he located the vehicle with its doors open and suspects seated inside the bakkie on a property on Peace Road.

Upon arrival, RUSA Members approached the vehicle and arrested the driver. The intoxicated suspect explained that the vehicle belonged to his sister’s boyfriend. He claimed that he was granted permission to use the bakkie however upon arrival of the victim it was established that the suspect had climbed through an open window while they were asleep. He stole cash & the vehicle keys from their home.

When they woke up after midnight they found that their vehicle had been stolen and activated the tracking device.
