There are strict regulations on fitting flashing amber/strobe lights on a vehicle

Question:

I wanted to enquire about the flashing amber /Strobe Light on vehicle

Apparently, in Mpumalanga you need a permit to have this fixture (permanently fixed to the vehicle roof) on a vehicle as required by the mines in and around Witbank and Middelburg area

I would have thought with all the mist and dangerous vehicles their driver must switch them on permanently to be even more visible for other road users

Answer:

Vehicles that are allowed to have fixed yellow flashing lamps are listed in reg 176 of the regulations. Other vehicles are not allowed to have amber lamps. If you do require such a lamp on a public road an exemption needs to be obtained in terms of section 81 of the National Road Traffic Act, 1996.
