Leander Pienaar gives the thumbs-up during a race
Many accidents claims can be prevented – especially those accidents caused by driver inexperience and drivers trying to do too much on vehicles they are not familiar with! In areas where special skills are required such as quad bike riding and 4×4 driving it is most important to gain experience and benefit from the expertise of those who have been there and done that.
I am pleased to say that the Arrive Alive and Quad24 websites received an email with a request for such assistance. The email was from Rand Refinery and was worded as follows:
“Can you please advice on how can we get training for our employees using the Quad for their normal duties to comply. Your help will be highly appreciated.”
We were able to pass this along to Leander Pienaar from Jetsport who is truly an expert on quad bikes. He not only sells these bikes but is a former winner of the Roof of Africa quad bike race in Lesotho. He is aware of the extreme physical challenges facing a quad bike rider and the dangers of not operating such a vehicle safely.
We have in the past few years noted that many International Aid Organizations started recognizing the importance of quad and 4×4 training. They offer assistance in the most remote areas of Africa – and this is most often done by Europeans inexperienced in driving these specialized vehicles in these mountainous areas! Accredited 4×4 training institutions are now reducing the amount of vehicles written-off in these areas by inexperienced drivers.
