Since August 2013, Uber has provided the technology to support on-demand transportation alternatives in South Africa. The safety and security of our users is among our highest priorities, and insurance is a critical part of our safety program.
While every ride has always been insured, we are pleased to introduce two new products designed specifically for our operations in South Africa.
We continue to look for ways to do more to ensure safety on the road for our transportation providers and their passengers. As of March 17, 2017, we have collaborated with Chubb, one of the leading insurers in the world.
In the unfortunate event of an accident, the coverage provides passenger accident insurance, which covers compensation for accidental death or serious injury suffered by passengers whilst on a trip with Uber
In addition, we have partnered with Road Cover, who will provide legal assistance to riders and other third parties for claims submitted to the Road Accident Fund.
At Uber, we view the addition of this insurance coverage and legal assistance as an important part of fulfilling our goal of reliable, affordable, and safe transportation options for all South Africans.
