Rust De Winter is 100km north of Pretoria. The camp site is situated on the banks of the Elands River with the largest ‘Apiesdoring’ trees in the southern hemisphere. Some of these trees are over 300 years old. Weekend Warrior members have an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy time, off-road style, in nature.
The 4X4 trail will start in the bushveld with sandy tracks that wind through various gorges, valleys, mountain passes and trails en-route to the campsite situated on the highest outcrop in the area overlooking a range of valleys.
The convoy leaves the next morning after breakfast following a different route down the valleys, again crossing streams before arriving back at the 4×4 ATV camp site around noon. The trail proceeds through the famous ‘lover’s lane’ which is a water-formed gorge through alluvial rock. Certificates will be issued by the Trial Master to all drivers who complete the trail. The total distance of the trail is approximately 80km.
The trail is not dangerous if drivers follow the advice of the tour guides. Drivers should preferably know their vehicle and have some off-road experience. However, officials will guide drivers as and when required.
What to bring along:
1. 5 litres of drinking water per person
2. Own camping equipment (tent, sleeping bags, mattress, refreshments)
3. Own recovery equipment
4. Own Braai Grid (Flip-over grid)
5. Sunday morning breakfast
6. Please remove running boards and excaliburs.
7. 20 litres per person for shower.
