What do i need to know about an expiry date on tyres?

by jonckie@arrivealive.co.za

Question:

I read through your website on Road Safety And Aspects Of Tyre Safety and there is a tyre expiry date of 4-years validity. I would like to know if this expiry date applies to trailers, generators, mobile fuel tanks etc

Answer:

All tyres have an expiry date from date of manufacture. Depending on the tyre manufacturer’s warranty it ranges from 4 to 5 years.

By law the manufacturing date must be marked on the sidewall of every tyre. Regarding the fitment, it is irrespective of the application.

Below is an example the expiry date stipulated on the sidewall of the tyre.

I hope the guidelines below will assist you when checking all your tyres.
