Good day, I want to get PrDP lincence from the DLTD and I read your advice about what different between PDP and PrDP but my wife said that I need PDP first before I get PrDP. I only have CodeB and good health with no criminal record for accident or others. Could you please reply me for that matter?
Answer:
A PDP or PrDP are used interchangeably depending on who you talk to. The acronym actually stands for a “Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)”, so you don’t need to first get a PDP to get a PrDP. A PrDP is issued for different categories namely:
• Category G (Goods) : which authorises driving of a motor vehicle that is a goods vehicle with a GVM exceeding 3500kg or a breakdown vehicle
• Category P (Passengers): which authorises driving of a motor vehicle in category G as well as a bus, minibus or a vehicle conveying 12 or more persons including the driver
• Category D (Dangerous goods): which authorises driving of a motor vehicle conveying dangerous goods as stipulated in regulations 273 to 283. There are additional requirements for this category PrDP.
In terms of the licence, the current licence code B will not allow you to apply for a PrDP as such a licence only relates to a class of motor vehicle that does not require a PrDP. So should you need a PrDP, you will first be required to obtain an appropriate licence code and the actual code will depend on the usage of the PrDP.
For information, the following licence codes could be considered:
Licence code EC1 – includes authorisation to drive a motor vehicle for which a code B, C1 or EB is required
Licence code EC – includes authorisation to drive a motor vehicle for which a code B, C1, C, EB or EC1 is required
Hopeful that the response provided above satisfies the question asked.
