The Arrive Alive website recently received an email from a fleet manager asking for attention to road and directional signage on a specific road. This is an excellent example of how feedback from our drivers can add some extra eyes on the road and assist authorities to identify and rectify potential hazards to road safety!

This was referred to Road Safety Authorities in the Western Cape and we would like to share the response received:

Attached find Google earth picture with direction sign positions ate N1/R44 interchange. The GD1 signs are advance direction signs 160 m from first onramp south side and 270 m away on northern side and are still displayed according to our records. The GD2 signs are at the respective on-ramps. The signs were there on Google StreetView, but on our latest video recordings (March 2017) the GD2-signs at the on-ramp to N1 Cape Town were missing – probably stolen. The N1 interchange and its signage inside the N1 road reserve is the maintenance responsibility of SANRAL and is probably replaced by now. I will check when I pass that point and if not will notify SANRAL. If advance signs are stolen our regional maintenance office should replace and should have identified issue by now. I will check.
Please be assured that we will replace signs if missing as soon as practical.
