Two suspected hijackers have been shot following a shoot-out between police and the hijackers on the corner of New Road and 16th, in Midrand this afternoon.
Just after 4pm EMER-G-MED’s RV7, V02 and A01 responded to the emergency call.
Paramedics arrived on the scene within minutes of being dispatched, arriving to find multiple SAPS vehicles and a helicopter already on the scene.
It’s believed that the police interrupted an attempted hijacking. The suspects opened fire on the officers and a shoot-out ensued.
One suspect was fatally wounded and declared dead on the scene. A second suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was in a critical condition – paramedics stabilised him before he was transported to a nearby government hospital under police guard.
A third suspect was uninjured and was arrested on the scene.
Motorists experienced heavy delays in the area due to ongoing crime scene investigations. EMER-G-MED would like to thank the South African Police Services for all the good work they do.
