Can I renew my drivers license from abroad?

Question:

I am a South African citizen, currently living in the United States. My current SA driver’s licnese will expire in February 2012.

Is there any way to rener my license while I am abroad?

Please let me know what options I have or what procedures to follows as I do not want to LOSE my license and have to take my learners and test again, should I come back to South Africa???

Answer:

There are no provisions for a renewal to be done from abroad.

You may exchange the licence for a foreign if you qualify in the country where you are.

At this stage your licence validity period is indefinite, only the card expires so you will not lose your licence.
