Could you please help me. I need information on the lengths of bakkies and trailers in SA.
We are a manufacturing company and use a bakkie with two trailers to deliver our goods. The two trailers are both 7m in length. The overall length is under 22m.
We heard that the law has changed and we are not allowed to hook two trailers behind the bakkies.
Could you please provide me with answers as we are situated in Botswana and use the bakkie and trailers to deliver in SA.
Answer:
The law has not changed. Reg 221 allows two trailers behind a motor vehicle up to 22 metres (subject of course to regulations governing tare, braking and gross combination masses plus licence categories). You must check the braking requirements in Reg 151 as the trailers are combined to determine the braking requirements.
