For the first time ever on Speed Stars, the winner will be decided in an actual race to the finish line! Our eight fastest stars will line up on the grid at Zwartkops in identical VW Polo TSI’s and battle it out over a six-lap handicap race.
Last weeks final celebrity pairing saw Jesse Clegg and Jenna Ward go head to head on track and add their lap times to our leaderboard. While Jenna didn’t put a paddle wrong over the two lap race, the dreaded Turn Eight claimed another victim when Jesse pushed too hard and ran off track at the start of his flying lap. Going into the race they both knew they needed to post a time in the low 1:29’s if they wanted a chance to contest the final. Even with his off track excursion, Jesse still posted an impressive time of 1:28.31 – enough to secure him a spot in the finals – and super consistent Jenna can be stoked with a time of 1:30.27, making her our third fastest woman this season.
But as we predicted at the beginning of the season, the fate of our stars would lie in the hands of our two public contestants, Louis Pires and Jason Absmeier. The lap times they set in the first episode were finally revealed, ending the hopes of a place in the finals for Cliff ‘Pigspotter’ Pinto and Richelieu Beanouir. Their lap times saw them rocket up the leaderboard with Louis posting the fastest lap time of the season – a blistering 1:23.80 – more than one and a half seconds faster than Rob Forbes! Jason’s time was equally impressive, a 1:25.51 saw him finish in third place.

Unfortunately two of our finalists are unable to take up their positions on the grid for the finals. Ryan Kankowski, who was released from his contract with the Lions, has returned to his Club in Japan and Jesse Clegg is on the road with his band. So Cliff and Richelieu have been extended a lifeline and will line up for the finals as our seventh and eighth fastest qualifiers.
