The Police in Kimberley are investigating a case of theft out of motor vehicle after arresting two males aged 16 and 19 in Kimberley. On Wednesday, 18 December 2013 at approximately 08:30 the Kimberley Visible Policing unit were busy with routine patrols in Utility, Kimberley. They spotted the two suspicious looking suspects in a nearby veld and searched them. The police found a Guess handbag containing a purple blackberry cell phone, a Samsung I-phone, car keys and a computer modem.
The police questioned the suspects regarding the ownership of the goods but they could give a positive response. Further investigation led the police to a case of theft out of motor vehicle which was reported to the Kimberley police station earlier the same morning. It is alleged that the two suspects grabbed the handbag from the passenger seat of a motor vehicle idling at a red robot at the corner of Compound and Stockdale Street. The incident allegedly occurred at approximately 07:30 while the female complainant was on her way to work. The police hereby want to warn the public to take cognisance of the modus operandi used by criminals.
Please ensure that all your doors are locked and do not leave valuables such as hand bags, cellular phones, cash, jewellery, digital cameras and GPS’ in plain sight inside your vehicle. These things attract criminals to your motor vehicle. Motorists are requested to be alert at all times and refrain from speaking to suspicious looking persons when driving in your vehicle. Always be aware of your surroundings and drive to the nearest police station when you notice you are being followed. Do not carry around large amounts of cash when doing your Christmas shopping. Be alert when you exit banks or ATM’s after withdrawing money.
Both the suspects will appear in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 19 December 2013. The investigation continues.
