Wesbank fuel economy tour in partnership with FNB

by Media Arrive Alive

Marketing and Communications specialist, Wilken Communication Management, (WCM) is the company behind the WesBank Fuel Economy Tour in partnership with FNB. From inception to reality, it is the brainchild of Charl Wilken, son of long-time motorman Flip, who founded the company in 1997.
“I competed in several of the previous Total Economy Runs, which were run more like a rallying event, with driving on both tar and gravel roads concentrated in a fairly compact area of South Africa” explained Charl Wilken. “However, I believe that what we really need in South Africa is an event that is run on major routes over a wide area of the country, affording an opportunity to provide fuel consumption figures based on realistic consumer driving behaviour.”
“This is the recipe we are implementing for the WesBank Fuel Economy Tour in partnership with FNB. The event will be run on major tar roads covering routes used by many motorists, particularly during the holiday commute. The route will be approximately 2 500 km in length and will be run over five days, thus ensuring fuel consumption data that are representative of a standard production car driven with economical driving in mind echoing the financial benefits to the motorist,” added Charl.
“We have obtained the services of a number of specialists who are well versed in running motorsport events and policing the technical aspects of these events to ensure a level playing field in the WesBank Fuel Economy Tour in partnership with FNB.”
Wilken Communication Management was established by Flip Wilken in 1997 after 30 years in the
the corporate world, working in the communication and public relations operations of Datsun-Nissan, Telefunken, Toyota, and the McCarthy Group.

WCM is a family business headed up by Flip Wilken, sons Jacques (Operational Director) and Charl (Project Director) all involved in the business, which specialises in the motor industry, although it handles projects in other sectors of the economy too.
WCM is able to provide a full spectrum of public relations, marketing, promotional and publishing services. It spearheaded the birth and subsequent growth of the Business Day motoring supplement “MotorNews”, and currently publishes AutoLive, a monthly digital e-zine for the local motor industry, and Trucks & Heavy Equipment a bi-monthly magazine for the trucking industry.
The company offers a proverbial one-stop service, utilising its own team members and expertise, as well as a wide network of service providers to provide the best communications solutions for its clients.
