In order to address the contributors to provincial crime generators, Cape Town Central Police deployed more members over the Safer Festive Season for visible policing and crime prevention. This initiative yielded success when several suspects were arrested today.
On Thursday morning, 20 December 2018, a 38-year-old car jammer was arrested for attempted theft out of a motor vehicle by Cape Town Central Bikers Squad with the assistance of CCID security in Darling Street. The car was parked in Sir Lowry Street, Zonnebloem.
According to reports, the suspect was found inside a parked vehicle by a Parking Marshall in Harrington Street. The Marshall immediately notified CCID security who then called the police for back-up as the suspect ran on foot in the direction of Darling Street. Police members and Security officers of CCID responded promptly and arrested the suspect in possession of a remote control which was recovered after being searched by police.
At the same time Crime Prevention Unit members arrested four suspects between the ages of 32 and 36 for the possession of two dangerous weapons (knives), and drugs including Tik and Whoonga (drugs) at the corners of Darling and Strand Street.
In another incident members also arrested a 27-year-old male suspect in New Market Street, Oranjezicht for possession of a BB pistol (in possession of imitation firearm and dangerous weapon).
The arrested suspects are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 December 2018 on the mentioned charges.
