On Sunday, Mi7 teams received several reports that a GWM bakkie was stolen from a shopping centre in the Northdale area. The vehicle was not fitted with a tracking device, and nobody knew in which direction the assailants had fled.
But Mi7 Strategic Threat Response Unit members got to work nonetheless, and later in the day, they received information from sources reporting that the vehicle may be in the Site 11 area near a reservoir.
Working alongside SAPS Flying Squad officers, Mi7 teams deployed a drone to survey the entire area from above, and eventually spotted the bakkie abandoned. The drone then flagged the coordinates and teams proceeded to recover the stolen vehicle.
