Does the Road Traffic Act require a partition between the driver and goods carried?

Question:

I received a fine two days ago for R750.00. code 1211 legal ref 247s

I had some boxes of books and puzzles on the back seat and was told that I needed a “petition” (sic) between me and the goods. Have never heard of such a thing and can’t find it on the aarto website. He also couldn’t tell me where I could get such a partition.

Does that mean that one also can’t even drop the back seats of any car and put your golf clubs in? Even cars that were designed to transport goods like the VW Caddi don’t have such a partition.

Any help would be appreciated

Answer:

This is not a correct charge. Reg 247 refers to the goods compartment of a vehicle and a partition is required . Not applicable to the back seat of a car.
Complete an AARTO 08 and request a withdrawal.
