A resident of Fiddlewood Crescent in Woodview, Phoenix was injured after he was assaulted by armed suspects during a hijacking at his home this evening (Friday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Phoenix Operations Center received multiple calls from residents in the area at approximately 17:15 reporting shots being fired. A few callers claimed that the victim was also shot.
Several Reaction Officers and Medics were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found the victim bleeding from an injury to his head. It was confirmed that he was assaulted during a hijacking and not shot.
It was established that a visitor was entering a property when at least four men ran into the yard as the driveway gate was closing. They confronted the male victim as he exited his home and assaulted him with the butt of a firearm before locking him in the bathroom.
The victim managed to free himself and retrieve his firearm. As the suspects were driving out of the property in the visitors 3 series BMW the victim opened fire on them. The suspects abandoned the BMW and fled in either a silver VW Polo or silver Toyota Etios. The victim was treated on scene for an injury to his head.
Reaction Officers, SAPS and other authorities are currently searching for the suspects.
