How close to the road should a mobile traffic camera be placed?

Question:

I stopped to take this photo attached below at Hanover. The mobile speed camera is on top of the bridge where the officer [ to whom I waved was sitting in his vehicle 🙂 ]

Are there any stipulations as to how far [ or high above] a mobile speed camera needs to be positioned… ?

Answer:

As long as they lock the speed at a distance not further away than 500 metres and they have a clear view of the front number plate they are legal.

Many officers use the overhead bridge as it provides a nice view.
