Information was received by the SAPS of a suspected hijacked vehicle, a Mercedes A45, being repaired at a local Garage this morning, 10 February 2021.

Mechanics at the garage attempted to order parts on the car’s vehicle identification number (VIN) which is the identifying code for a specific vehicle, they discovered that the VIN does not exist for the vehicle which was booked in.

The SAPS team with members from the Visible Policing Unit, Detective Services and Port Alfred K9 Unit responded and during an intense preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the vehicle was sought by the SAPS in KwaZulu Natal where it was possibly hijacked.

Whilst the SAPS were at the scene, the person who booked in the vehicle was contacted and when he arrived, he was questioned by the local detectives.

Local investigating officers teamed up with detectives from KwaZulu Natal and a 37-year-old male was arrested for possession of a suspected motor vehicle. He will appear in the Port Alfred Magistrates court later this week.
