Question:
I wonder if you could let me know if it is legal for a traffic officer to take your licence disk because your vehicle’s windscreen is cracked. Are they not supposed to fine you?
Answer:
Theoretically, a cracked windscreen – where such crack interferes with the vision of the driver – can render a vehicle unroadworthy. The officer concerned should have issued you with a notice to discontinue use of the vehicle until such time as the vehicle has undergone a (free) roadworthy test so you can get your licence disc reissued.
If this happened then please get your windscreen replaced and take it for a roadworthy test as soon as you can. If it did not happen, then go to the licensing authority and ask them to print a duplicate licence disc for you.
