Question:

I would just like to enquire what age do vintage vehicles start from?

Answer:

Interesting question…in the old days it used to be veteran was 25 years and vintage was 50 years, but that would make a Citi Golf veteran and an Isetta bubble car vintage, and there are some who might disagree with that position. I think increasingly there is an emphasis on “classic” cars, which are cars that are notable regardless of their age. Perhaps you should approach a club like the Piston Ring Club and see what their current view is. They have a website: www.pistonring.org.za

Thanks for your e-mail. The information you require is as follows:

Antique    Pre 31 December 1904

Veteran    Jan 1905 – 31 December 1918

Vintage    Jan 1919 – 31 December 1930

Hope this helps

Generally the above classes are rallied together under the banner of Veteran

Class C
Vintage – Built between January 1919 & December 31, 1930

Class D
Post Vintage – Built between January 1931 & December 31, 1945

Class E
Post War – Built between January 1946 & December 31, 1960

Class F
Post 60 Built between January 1961 & December 31, 1970

Class G
Post 70 Built between January 1971 & the SAVVA age Limit as defined in the Constitution
