Multiple stolen vehicles recovered in the Durban Area

Since Christmas, Mi7 Strategic Threat Response Unit teams have been hard at work dealing with a scourge of stolen vehicles across the city. Their efforts have resulted in at least three vehicles being recovered to date.
First, on December 26, Mi7 teams received information regarding the approximate location of a vehicle, a white VW Polo, stolen during a housebreaking incident in Bellevue.

The information led teams to the Edendale area. There, specialised surveillance drones were launched to sweep the area, and eventually, the vehicle was spotted. It was thereafter successfully recovered.

Then, on the 28th of December, the team received information regarding the whereabouts of another stolen vehicle, a Nissan, reportedly stolen in Durban. The vehicle was flagged by the Mi7 Surveillance Net – a system of cameras equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition software at 150 locations in the region. The vehicle was confirmed to be travelling on the highway. It was intercepted, and the driver said she was unaware the vehicle was reported stolen. The matter was handed over to the police for further investigation.

Then, earlier this week, a house robbery occurred in Edendale. The occupants were held at gunpoint and items including clothing and electronics were stolen. The suspects also made off with the resident’s BMW.

Following up on information, the team went to the Caluza area. Again, they used specialised surveillance drones to scan the area. When the vehicle was spotted, the location was passed over to police and other security teams who successfully recovered it. It was found abandoned.
